Mike La Penna established the firm in 1987 after a career as a health care administrator serving in a variety of health care entities. He has executive experience with both profit and not for profit health care systems, as well as field experience at the ground level in clinical service roles.
Mike is a graduate of the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business with an MBA and Certificate in Health Care Administration. He also has a master’s degree (Master of Jurisprudence – Health Law) from Loyola University Chicago. He has held faculty positions in both undergraduate and graduate business programs and is a frequent lecturer at national industry conferences. He has completed additional certification programs in valuation sponsored by NACVA, The University of Chicago, and the University of Oxford. He is certified in health care compliance (CHC) and valuation (CVA).
Mike has authored many articles on topics relevant to the management and financial fields and is frequently interviewed for industry publications. He has authored books related to medical staff integration and employer-sponsored workplace on-site clinics. He regularly provides expert witness testimony in relevant health care disputes and litigation cases.
Mike’s expertise includes strategic planning, payer negotiation, real estate joint ventures, merger, acquisition and divestiture strategies, IPA/PHO development and management, equity and risk arrangements, technology applications, and academic faculty practice arrangements.
